An intervention is a program or strategy implemented in order to help a child make progress in an academic or behavioral area of need (Smith, 2016). There is not just one intervention or strategy that works best for all students with special needs . Intervention programs for students that qualify for special education services should be individualized and clearly stated in the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) . Some possible strategies and interventions to use in special education settings include direct instruction, differentiated instruction, universal design for learning, accommodations and modifications, and strategies instruction.
Administrators role:

2. Ensure that research-based interventions are used and that professional development is provided.
3. Visit classrooms often to ensure instructional plans are implemented.
4. Support teachers by providing time to prepare and a private space to complete paperwork. (Smith, 2016)
